What does Geolocation do?

Geolocation uses the phone’s GPS capability to show the user’s location on the map as a small blue dot.  Geolocation can be used on geographic maps and custom maps that have been geographically located.  A custom map image must be created accurately to scale for Geolocation to work on a custom map.

What custom enhancements can be added to the enterprise version?

The enterprise version allows full extension of YourMapp. For instance, enhanced branding, integration with systems, specialist content, the possibilities are endless.

What interactivity do the maps provide in the app?

The map can be pinched and dragged as any user would expect to view the contents of the map.  They can press on pins or highlighted regions to view further maps or your content information.

Could I use YourMapp to present information other than a map?

Absolutely.  YourMapp makes your images interactive and so could be used to allow people to navigate a process flow diagram, a technical drawing, an org chart – anything where it helps the user to navigate by interacting with highlighted areas on an image. For mobile customers, you can also add any information you want to a page and link to it straight from the app’s ‘Explore’ menu. The possibilities are endless.

How do I create a custom map?

To create a custom map, all you need is an image. It could be a drawing, illustration, photo or even a scanned document.

  1. You can create a top-level map from the ‘Your maps’ page at manage.yourmapp.com or you can create one by creating a region or pin on another map (see creating regions).
  2. When you open up your map, you’ll see a button asking you upload your map. Click on the button and choose your image file from your computer (JPG or PNG). Make sure your image is good quality but not too large that it will be slow to download.
  3. When you’ve chosen and uploaded your image, you can position it within your screen using the zoom buttons and by dragging. When you’re happy with the map’s position, click ‘Set default zoom and position’. This will make sure that you and your users will always see the same section of map when they view it.

How do I create a geographic map?

It’s super easy to create a geographic map, in fact it’s already been made for you – you just need to choose which bit you want to use. You can create a top-level map from the ‘Your maps’ page at manage.yourmapp.com or you can create one by creating a region or pin on another map (see creating regions). When you open up your map, you’ll see a map of the whole world. Use the zoom buttons and drag the map to get it into the position you want and then click ‘Set default zoom and position’, the ‘Save’. This will ensure that whenever your map is loaded, you and your users will always see the same part of the map.

How do I publish my map?

You can publish your maps to your mobile app or website at the touch of a button. Simply open the ‘Publish’ page from the sidebar.

On the publish page, you’ll see information about what is currently published, compared to your latest content. If the public version is out of date, the publish box will be coloured orange. To publish, simply describe what you’ve changed in the comments box and click publish. Once it’s ready, the publish box will turn green to show that your public version is up to date. Content will be pushed to your mobile app and web embeds simultaneously.
